Another one

Got the brown one laid out in rows so I can just sew when I get the time.  Changed a couple of blocks around but not sure if I like it that way or not.

Started to get the second one together so I can also get it into rows to sew.  Easier to do it while I have the time and then just sew the rows together when I get time.  I found a Layer Cake I had forgotten I bought and it's just lovely -  Hubba Hubba from Me and My Sister Designs.  They sure do nice fabric, love their colours.  Just put it up like this to see the colours.  Still have the other side pieces to sew on and then recut.  Hopefully I will have both of these sewn together by next weekend.

New Quilt

I quilted one of these for a friend and just couldn't resist making one also.  So put the Stepping Stones aside for a while and started on Christmas Quilts for family.  It's going to be pretty wild as I've used lots of jungle and animal prints but was determined to only sew out of my stash (apart from "borrowing" some black squares as I have run out of blacks).  And I can't even see where I have been in the stash.
Jean's Quilt

So now I'm on the last round...........very simple and quick quilt.  From the book Cozy Modern Quilts by Kim Schaefer

Stepping Stones has been put aside for the time being but I did cut up the new batiks for it and they are patiently waiting in the background.

Stepping Stones

I can't resist a new quilt.  Wish I could but that's life.  Started this one by Judy Niemeyer and doing it all in Batiks.  It's looking yummy already and I get it done in bits and pieces.  I have it set up at the machine and if I have a few minutes I sew another piece on.  I think I have about 7 blocks done.

NYB - getting closer to finish

Today I finished the paper piecing of the borders for the NYB - Whooo Hooo.  This sure has been long term project.....years in the collecting and doing.  But the end is near!  Only need to get fabric to finish borders and it's done.

NYB Progress

Well, have one border to piece for the NYB and then ready to attach them........it's been a long time in the making but I so excited to be near the end.......the last border will go quickly as the pieces are big.  Need to buy some pieces to attach the pieced border to, so (sigh) that means a trip to a quilt shop.  I just bought a pattern from Cluck, Cluck, Sew so am wanting to get into that now.

A Tidy Sewing Room

For years I have wanted to get all the boxes off the floor and into cupboards.  So one morning I woke and decided to do it......took all day and part of the next but I got there.  Lots of labeling and sorting and it looks so clean and lovely I didn't want to mess it up.

And this is what it looked like when I finished.

What got me started were these quilt tops.....I had gone looking for something and found these two tops.....had completely forogtten I had made them.......so figured it really was time to have a tidy up.

The room was so clean and tidy I was reluctant to mess it up but in the end the love of sewing won.

Disappearing Pinwheels

Finished up the blocks for the Disappearing Pinwheel.....went really fast but now need to do the borders.  Made one different as I thought it was too dark for the quilt but it looks OK and can't be bothered unpicking....I think.

New Quilt

Watched Bonnie Hunter on The Quilt Show today.  That lady always motivates me, so now I'm ready to strip all those left over pieces into sewing size pieces.  Spent the afternoon watching old recordings of Bonnies's QuiltCam and sewing.  After getting the NYB together I decided to try Jenny Doan's split pinwheel........so being me I just can't make one block, so have 2 done, 4 more ready to sew together and lots of fabric to marry up.  Don't like the bias edges but it's so quick and a cool way to do a block.

NYB Sashing

Got all the sashing on and now have the centre of the quilt done.  The borders I'm still not happy with, but Hey  I have progress.  Still think it's too brown.

NYB Sashing

Finally got the sashing done for my NYB.   didn't like the deep, deep browns so changed out for some lighter tones.  I think it's a little too brown but hoping that the borders will lighten it.  Originally I didn't like the borders I did, but now think they will be OK (except for the one I did incorrectly and will have to remake)

Anyway it's progress.  I started collecting fabric for this before 2008 and started sewing it in 2012.......so now I'm up to the border.  It's just lovely to be back sewing for pleasure.

Next step for NYB

Finally have all the blocks done and now ready for the sashing.  I love it the way it looks now and would be happy to just sew it up as is but I know it will even get better with the sashing......then I have to tackle the borders.  I did start one border but don't like the look - far too busy so will have to start again.

More Log Cabin Blocks

Well it turns I need to make more blocks.  I need to add another two rows to the length.  This really is the never ending quilt.  Well I had 11 extras, found two partially made on the floor behind a box near the ironing board.......so IF I get the maths right this time I need to make another 11.  The finished size will be 107 x 130.  I did get the border fabric which is a purple/blue/with a smudge of teal.  Very yummy.  But I'm having a break from this one.  The customer won't be using it till around May so it can wait a while.
Border Fabric for Log Cabin

Normally I spend my Christmas break sewing for myself and playing and pretending I'm going to finish some UFO's.  But this time I spent it doing the Log Cabin.  So today is my turn.  Got out some dotty fabric I got ages ago.  Designed it ages ago and made one block (which for some reason is hiding).  So today I'm sewing for pleasure for me (well for a pattern but still pleasure).

Michsel Miller fabric - Kiss Dot

Australia is sweltering today......I think everywhere but here.  We will probably be around 29C which is 84F and we have a strong breeze blowing.   Further south it will be around 40C - that's 104F.  Out west it will probably reach 45C - a whopping 113F.  Add in the humidity and it's just horrible.

So I had better get to the sewing room and have some fun.
