Slowly, slowly Trail Mix

Not much progress on Trail Mix, but a little.  Hopefully the Christmas period will see a lot more.  Some of the diamonds cut, centre 9 patch blocks made.  Hard to find another background to go in the quilt so may go with just 2 fabrics otherwise it will never get done.

Oops Trail Mix

Sure wish I would read instructions properly.  Made 8 blocks for the border only to discover I had put some colours in the wrong place.  To tiny to unpick so now I have 8 totally useless blocks.  so just had to start again.....and remake the 9 patches because they were wrong too.  Grrrr......read and look properly next time

So have some of the 20 needed for the borders with colours in the right place.

Trail Mix progress

Haven't cut my diamonds or triangles yet.  Bought a diamond ruler but not the correct angle.  Damn!  Just putting together some of the blocks and have discovered my 9 patches are positioned wrong.  So have to make some more - at least there are only 9 of them.

Getting so much rain here, would have to be the most I've seen here...and more to come.

Trail Mix update

Motoring along with my Trail Mix.  Haven't cut  the diamonds or triangles yet but did get th 4 patches and 9 patches done.  Boy they are so tiny!!  Will start the half square triangles today, not sure how many of them but I can imagine there will be a few hundred.

9 patch quilted

This is a quilt I made 100 years ago - well maybe I exagerrate a little - but a long while ago.  Finished quilting it a few days ago and now binding it.

Trail Mix by Edyta Sitar

Finished the first lot of sewn units today for my Trail Mix by Edyta Sitar - all 20 of them.  Just need to cut some diamonds and see how they mix together.  It's been a long time since I have sewn such small pieces so units take a long time to get done.  I hope they play together nicely.  I think the background is going to be the most important fabric in this one.  I tried to add lots of pink as that is the tone I want but will have to wait and see if it works.

Wild Child finished

Well doesn't time fly!  I cannot believe my last entry was March.  Today I finished quilting My Wild Child.  I think it's been on the machine for 3 weeks or so.  Life has a way of getting in the way of fun things but getting sorted now and so I hope to be doing more sewing in the next few months - won't that be nice.  So here are the final photos - I just love this quilt and totally unlike anything I have ever made fabric wise.  WILD and UNTAMED.  So want to do more like it - but mind you I have started stripping for one of Edyta Sitar's so that is super conservative but in my beloved reproductions.

So thanks Chris Jurd for this wonderful quilt.

My Wild Child and rain, rain, rain

Well we got the remnants of Cyclone Debbie here today.  Thank goodness we didn't get as much rain as predicted.  But our dam is overflowng, tanks full and the yard full of water.  Still flood bound but no doubt all  will be clear in the morning.  Poor people up north will just be beginning their hard road back to recovery.

Did a little sewing today so now have 6 blocks completed.  Still looking wild.  Haven't trimmed any of them yet, but would probably look better if I did.

My Wild Child progress

Just doing some sewing on My Wild child today.  Lost of rain around from Cyclone Debbie and more to come.  Our yard is full of water and not getting away too fast.  Have had heavy showers, they stop for a while and then start again.  But in a better place that the people in Central Queensland.

So at home and doing some sewing (and having canipions as my computer has had a sputter and all photos and documents have disappeared!!!!!!!!!!!!)  Hop my computer man can find them.  So sewing and trying to stay calm.

Just auditioning to seek what I like......look so different in a photo, may change some of them.

My Wild Child aka Picklled Fish

Went away to a quilt retreat on the weekend.  Oh just lovely - 2 days of sewing....just heaven.  Got one top together but haven't put the borders on yet.  Also finished off some Delectable Mountain blocks but forgot to take the sashing so had to do something else - My Pickled Fish by Chris Jurd.  and it is wild.  Easy blocks to put together.  Got 2 blocks done and cut out lots of pieces.  Very excited about this - so completely out of my usual zone.  Had to buy all new fabrics as I just don't have these colours in my stash.  Just love it.

So this is MY WILD CHILD

Flower paper piecing

I started this a few years ago....not my design.  Decided to use 30's fabrics and white.  So finally got the top together today.  Now have to design some borders.  Am thinking of In and Out triangles white and colours but will have to have a play.  Looks pretty.

Have had a few days on the couch this weekend and watched a couple of quilting videos.....and the usual result is I want to make the quilts.  So have printed out the patterns for Chris Jurd's Pickled Fish.  Have the pattern coming for one of Michelle Marvig's and now just need to get hold of one by Edyta Sitar.....so they will keep me busy for a while.

Another year older....

Another year older....as the song goes.  Didn't get too much sewing over the Christmas break.  Had a house (and yard) full  of people and had the loveliest Christmas.  Have made a decision to forget about the bazillion things I want to do  and learn and just sew this year.  So unsubscribed from many newsletters and still  need to clean up my blog following.  So many wonderful blogs out there but just can't keep up.  Working full time really puts a dent in all that so this year I'm just going to concentrate on sewing.  I remember when I started quilting over 20 years ago I marked several books with quilts I wanted to make.  Never got around to doing too many of them as new books came along and I always found something else to sew or do.  So just going to sew as I fancy this year and maybe finish off some of that stuff.  So started a Delectable Mountain this week.  That was on my list all those years ago.

So decided to do it in Reproductions.  Some good choices and some bad.

Some cut wrong so they will go in the bin.  think I may sash it as I'm not sure I want to match all those seams!!!

I have been doing a little before I go to work and a little when I get home.  Set the alarm 15 minutes earlier last week and will increase that by 5 minutes each week and I should have more time before work to sew and get things done.

Have been playing in EQ to decide on borders.
