Final Swoon

Well it's finally finished and I still don't love it.  But I know the person I give it to will.

UPDATE Gave it to Jae and she just loves it.  Said it's the best quilt I have ever made :-)

Swoon and Batiks

Finally loaded Swoon and quilting it.  Really can't remember when I ever made a quilt and didn't like it.  But this one just won't grow on me.  Don't even like my choice of quilting!!!  But want to get it finished and will give it to an "adopted" niece who tells me I STILL haven't made her a quilt.  She likes purple so this will keep her happy till I get a 'real' one done for her.  And this will be a first for me I'm sure.......only bought the fabric in April this year, so to get it made and quilted and finished in the same year will be a first. ***********

Only a couple of weeks to The Brisbane Quilt show and here I am contemplating what  fabrics I want to look for.  Now a look in my cupboards tells me I haven't even touched fabric I bought two years ago at the very same show.  So I think I need to sew some of it so I can justify buying more.  Isn't that clever of me?  So making a very simple quilt with Jelly Rolls I got back then.  Have never sewed with Jelly Rolls but thought I should buy some to see what the attraction was.  These are all greens thou they look blue in the photo.  Will get a better photo tomorrow.  Made one like this years ago in reproductions.

Final Swoon

Well, only took three days but finally finished the last block of Swoon late this afternoon.    Still not lovin' it but when I lay them all out I thought it was OK.  Soooo maybe when it's all sewn up I'll love it....let's hope so.  The very first quilt that got me hooked on this obsession I just hated as I was sewing it but when it was finished I fell in love and haven't stopped making quilts since that day 20 years ago.

More Swooning

Well, got a few more blocks done on Swoon......have to keep pushing myself to do this.  That will teach me not cut out everything before I start. So only have 2 blocks to do and they are all done.  This is our last long weekend till October as much as I would like to sew something else I am going to push myself to finish this quilt.....who knows I make love it in the end!!!

Of all  the blocks I like this one the best

Meant to place my different stripes opposite each other but in my hurry to get done I  forgot.  Oops.

New Quilt

No progress on Swoon....still only 4 blocks.  But pulled - and well, YES, bought some -  fabric for a new quilt.  This is for a lady I know who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer.  So I thought I would make her a quilt to cuddle under while she goes thru it.  Her favourite colours are pink and black.  Have plenty (well I have some) black/white and white/black but not too many pinks, so a quick trip to the shops  was called for.  Won't be seeing her for about 3 weeks so I really have to move on this one.

I think the problem with my Swoon is the background.  It just doesn't sing.

Swoon blocks 3 & 4

Got 2 blocks finished this weekend.  Have to say I'm not loving it yet.  Normally when I start a new quilt I can't wait to get to the machine and have trouble stopping. And when I get some blocks done I get that hitch in my throat and think I JUST LOVE IT.  But this just isn't grabbing me.  The fabrics are lovely and love the colours but.....

Maybe it's because there are only 18 fabrics (plus background) and I would usually  use 118 !  Have always been a scrappy quilter and this is very controlled!  Sure hoping it will grow on me.

Swoon Block 2

Well got another one done.  Have a couple cut out but had visitors for the weekend so not too much sewing this Easter.  This quilt sure will be a little wild.

Swoon

Well finally started Swoon quilt.  Have been wanting to make it for ages and finally got some fabric last weekend.  Boy it's a bit out there!  Reminds me of the hippie days and the 70's.  Not sure that directional green was a wish choice, but oh well it's done now.  So only 8 to go.  Realised today that this time last year I spent Easter sewing my spiky quilt......and surprise surprise it all finished quilted and bound.
