How Many Log Cabin Blocks?

Well finally finished the final block for the quilt.....but maybe I should have checked way way before I finished cutting.  I end up with too many blocks but couldn't figure out why.  Then went over my notes this morning.  I had kept a tally each time I completed a bunch of blocks.  19 plus 25 = 44.  44 plus 14 = 58.  58 plus 10 = 58.  58 + 19 = 77. And so on to the end.  And I didn't find out the mistake till I laid out the quilt!!!!  What a waste.....all that sewing for nothing.  Oh well.  So now to sew it into a top and get borders on.

Lovely quilt! Why not put the spare blocks into a charity quilt?

Can you incorporate the extra blocks into the backing in some way or do you already have that planned? I just found your blog through Lily's Quilts. I am recouping from surgery on both my eyes in late November and can't drive or quilt or do any crafty things yet. So, it's really fun to see all the productivity of others. I see that you like to cross stitch, too. Of course, I can't do that right now either. I tried starting a x stitch project early in 2013 and found that I just could not see do it. The only thing I accomplished the whole year was one table runner. It's hard to thread a needle with double vision - lol. Your quilt is absolutely beautiful. I'm going to snoop around your blog and see more of your projects. Wishing you a peaceful and productive 2014.

I used scrap blocks from a quilt I made earlier in the year to make a lap sized quilt for the couch. Either way, lovely job!!

I really like the final arrangement of your log cabin blocks. That is a big project. Extra blocks could go on a matching throw pillow?

Beautiful log cabin quilt. Too many blocks is better than not enough. Table runner?

Hi, I found you via Lilys Quilts. The Log Cabin is beautiful, maybe a cushion or two to match?

nice blocks. You could use them in the backing?

Oh my goodness, that looks amazing! Is that with the extras in it? It looks HUGE :-) Are the spare blocks enough for a lap size quilt? Or maybe you could make some matching pillows... Or would that be too matchy matchy? I'm sure you'll think of something.

That is an absolutely beautiful log cabin. You might want to use the leftover blocks as part of the backing or make a wallhanging (or two) for gifts.
